Honoring Lilla G. Frederick
The school name honors the legacy of Ms. Frederick, who was a fierce advocate of students in the Grove Hall community.
She envisioned a diverse school that serves the whole child – mind, body, and spirit – through exemplary instruction in an inspiring and community-centered learning environment.
It tells them that you don't have to be famous, you don't have to have money or authority to be powerful," Kozu said. "You can be a neighborhood person and make a powerful difference."
She was one of the anchors of the community who made the city better for us all," Mayor Thomas M. Menino said yesterday. "She was a voice of reason and compassion."
